This is a Foucault Pendulum.  I came across it at the Boston Museum of Science.  I was mesmerized by it.  I stood there watching it for about 15 minutes and definitely could have stayed longer.

  • The Foucault Pendulum was named after French physicist Leon Foucault.

  • It's sole purpose was to demonstrate that the earth rotates.

  • It was first created in 1851
